Cogne ist eine Gemeinde mit 1469 Einwohnern im Cogne-Tal, einem Seitental des NN verfügt über eine Fläche von 212 km²
Cogne besteht aus den Ortsteilen Veulla, Boutillères, Champlong, Crétaz, Épinel, Gimillan, Moline, Montroz, Lillaz und Valnontey.
Nachbargemeinden sind Aymavilles, Brissogne, Champorcher, Charvensod, Fénis, Gressan, Locana (TO), Noasca (TO), Ronco Canavese (TO), Saint-Marcel, Valprato Soana (TO) und Valsavarenche
Am Ende der langen Eingangsschlucht mündet das Cogne-Tal in ein ausgedehntes Becken. Dort liegt das kleine Städtchen Cogne, das durch den Bergbau| Erzbergbau an Bedeutung gewann. Der vergangene Eisenerzabbau ist im Museo Mineraio Alpino dokumentiert, einem Bergwerkmuseum in einer ehemaligen Knappe (Bergbau)| Knappensiedlung.
Cogne ist Ausgangspunkt für Spaziergänge und Wanderungen im Bereich des Gran Paradiso. Cogne liegt integral im Gran-Paradiso-Nationalpark.
