Kurashiki: Guide


Kurashiki (倉敷市; japanisch: Kurashiki-shi) ist eine Stadt mit ca. 430.000 Einwohnern in der Präfektur Okayama und der ehemaligen Provinz Bitchū auf Honshu, der Hauptinsel von Japan.

Kurashiki ist eine Händlerstadt aus der Edo-Zeit. Kurashiki bedeutet soviel wie "Dorf aus Lagerhäusern", es sind noch Dutzende von Bauten (Kura) erhalten, die aufgrund ihrer typischen Fassaden ein Wahrzeichen der Stadt darstellen.

Heute sind wirtschaftlich bedeutsam Spinnereien, Baustoffindustrie, chemische Industrie, sowie die Verhüttung von Eisenerz.

Sehenswert ist das Ohara Museum of Art mit Werken von Henri Matisse|Matisse, Pierre-Auguste Renoir|Renoir, Edgar Degas|Degas, Paul Gauguin |Gauguin und Pablo Picasso|Picasso. Im Kurashiki Folk Art Museum sind Ausstellungsstücke der Volkskunst zu sehen, während das Japan Rural Toy Museum altes Spielzeug aus Japan, aber auch aus anderen Teilen der Welt zeigt.

Eine Partnerstadt ist Sankt Pölten in Österreich.
