Mito (Japanische Schrift|jap.: 水戸市; -shi) ist die Hauptstadt der Präfektur Ibaraki auf Honshū der Hauptinsel von Japan, etwa 140 km nordöstlich von Tokio gelegen. Mito hat etwa 248.000 Einwohner und ist ein wichtiger Eisenbahnknotenpunkt.
Neben einer Universität gibt es hier unter anderem Tabak-, Textilindustrie.
Zum Stadbild gehört eine Burg mit einer Parkanlage.
Mito besitzt einen der »Drei schönsten Landschaftsgärten Japans«, den Kairakuen.
