Szczyrk: Guide

Szczyrk (deutsch Schirk) ist eine polnische Stadt in der Woiwodschaft Schlesien im Powiat Bielski (Bielsko-Biała)|Powiat Bielski in den Schlesischen Beskiden im Tal der Żylica gelegen mit fast 6.000 Einwohnern. Seit jeher ist es neben Zakopane und Wisła (Stadt)|Wisła einer der bekanntesten polnischen Wintersportorte. Es verfügt über mehr als 60 km Langlaufloipen und etwa 30 Skilifte. Die Stadt ist Mitglied der Euroregion Beskydy.
In der Umgebung befinden sich folgende Berge: Skrzyczne (1257 m), Malinowska Skała, Magura, Klimczok (1117 m)

Geschichte

Die Anfänge des Dorfes sind mit der Besiedlung der Region um Żywiec durch Walachei|walachische Wanderhirten im 15. und 16. Jahrhundert verbunden (síehe auch: Goralen|Góralen). 1772 mit der Teilungen Polens|Ersten Teilung Polens fiel der Ort an Österreich. Im 19. Jahrhundert verschlechterten sich die Lebensbedingungen durch (Land-)Wirtschaftskrisen und Industrialisierung, so dass ein großer Teil der arbeitenden Bevölkerung ins nahe Bielsko-Biała abwanderte. Gegen Ende des Jahrhunderts bewirkte der einsetzende Tourismus jedoch eine Wiederbelebung der Region. 1973 erhielt der Ort die Stadtrechte.
