Ferrol (galicische Sprache|galicisch und spanische Sprache|spanisch Ferrol) ist eine Hafenstadt im Nordwesten Spaniens.

Die Stadt liegt in der Provinz A Coruña (Provinz)|A Coruña, in der Autonomen Region (Comunidad Autónoma) Galicien (Galicia) am Atlantischer Ozean|Atlanischen Ozean.

Die Einwohnerzahl Ferrols ist von 87.700 im Jahr 1981 auf mittlerweile rund 77.155 Einwohner (Stand: 2005, Instituto Nacional de Estadística) gesunken. Als maßgeblicher Grund hierfür gelten die seit Jahrzehnten anhaltenden wirtschaftlichen Strukturprobleme der Stadt (abnehmende Bedeutung als Hafenstadt und Militärstützpunkt).

Ferrol ist der Geburtsort des spanischen Diktator|Diktators Francisco Franco. Dieser wurde in Spanien „El Caudillo“ („Der Führer“) genannt. In Anlehnung an diesen Titel trug Ferrol von 1938 bis 1982 den Namen „El Ferrol del Caudillo“.

Aktuell (2006) kandidiert die Stadt für eine Aufnahme in das Weltkulturerbe. Zentrale Punkte der Bewerbung sind hierbei der Militärhafen und die etwas außerhalb der Stadt liegenden Festungen "San Felipe" und "La Palma".
